1 Cedar of Lebanon
Scientific Name – Cedrus libanii
Natural distribution in Mt. Lebanon, Syria and South East Turkey. Introduced into Great Britain 1638. Now commonly planted in large parks and gardens
Characteristics – Conifer, evergreen tree. Large with spreading branches bearing flat plates of needle like foliage. In woods the tree may have a long straight trunk and high level branches due to competition and shading.
Tree produces barrel shaped cones. The trunk is stout and often forked. Scaly ridges and deep fissures are characteristic of the mature Cedar of Lebanon.
